When Sgt. Scott Moore posted a YouTube video last week inviting the Black Swan actress to accompany him to the Marine Corps Ball on Nov. 18, it probably seemed like a long shot. But at the urging of her Friends With Benefits costar, Justin Timberlake, Kunis agreed to head to Greenville, North Carolina
There are 15 species of garnet; almandine, an iron rich garnet, is the most common. Other common species are spessartine, hessionite, and grossular; grossular garnets are so named for their gooseberry green color.

Garnets can be found as inclusions in diamonds. Garnet is a naturally occurring impurity in marble and lends a brown color to the marble.

Cape rubies, Australian rubies, and Arizona rubies are all actually garnets.

Unusual quality.

Garnet produces star stones, a type of gemstone that exhibits chatoyancy, the reflection of light from tiny inclusions of impurities, such as titanium oxide. These impurities are forced to align during the cooling stage of the formation of the garnets. Star stones have to be cut with a flat underside and domed top (en cabochon), with the dome oriented in a certain way relative to the impurities or no star can be seen. Garnets produce four, six, or eight rayed stars. Other stones that form stars are sapphire, ruby, quartz, and kornerupine. Garnet is the only stone that forms 8 rayed stars.

Meaning.

Garnet is January’s birthstone, and the stone for the zodiac sign Aquarius (Jan 21 – Feb 19); it is the suggested gemstone for a second wedding anniversary. Garnet is associated with the root chakra.

Many meanings for garnets can be found. Garnets are typically associated with guidance, security, and protection, true love, devotion, and constancy, and health, friendship, and good luck in business ventures.

Wine-red garnet is the state gemstone of New York; star garnet is the state gemstone of Idaho. Garnet is Connecticut's state mineral.

Big snowflakes drifted peacefully down creating a light dusting of snow for my husband's work holiday party. Then the snow was gone the next morning! That is the perfect storm.

To honor these four brief hours of snow, I created this First Snow Treasury, full of blue and snow themed items. Check it out here:
If we could have another four hours of snow on Dec 24th and 25th, this will be the perfect winter!LizabethDezignshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07251065097956626851noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6860704511961352278.post-60604608489333486412010-12-03T10:20:00.000-08:002010-12-03T10:25:29.748-08:00A Great Treasury!BeadsGalore2 who makes hand crafted jewelry using semi-precious stones, Swarovski crystals, and glass beads created this wonderful Treasury "Tis the Season for Red! and included one of my items, I'm a Fan of Red Feather Fascinator.

Thank you to to the T and D families, especially Mrs. D, for a great dinner and fun times on Thanksgiving. As with all good evenings over at the T house, it ended with a (mostly safe and controlled) bonfire. No marshmallows this time, though, because we had pumpkin cheesecake, pecan pie, apple crisp, and vanilla ice cream to munch on!

A special treat today! danceswithflowers, who sells upcycled clothing, jewelry, and home decor on Etsy, had featured my Fallen Leaves of Autumn Necklace in her Treasury: Magic on the Forest Floor. Nothing left to do but start blogging! And I have been putting that off because I am good at procrastination. And also because I am not so familiar with this blogworld with all of these blogwords, so I am just going to bluff my way through it and figure it out as I go. I imagine it will be frustrating at times and will require a lot of chocolate, coffee, and cheese-flavored popcorn to get through, but I am up to the challenge.

I love beads, baubles, jewels, and small shiny objects, crafting, reading, shopping, movies and television shows, my husband, family, friends, and my cutie little kitten, the above mentioned snacks, coffee (which bears repeating), shopping local, and exploring my new town of Greenville, North Carolina. So I guess all of that is what this blog will be about.

I have a store on Etsy (unashamed plug coming up… http://LizabethDezigns.etsy.com ) so I will be running some deals and specials and generally talking about my great jewelry and accessories here, too!

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12pt;">Yay! I am so glad to be here on blogspot.com. Thank you for visiting me here.LizabethDezignshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07251065097956626851noreply@blogger.com1
